This week, I experienced exactly this problem:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1065874&tstart=0
At first I was sure it was a hardware problem, because it affected the screen both in OS X and when I booted to XP with Boot Camp. I knew the video card was okay, because my external monitor looked fine, but I thought it could be a problem with the laptop LCD, or with the ribbon cable.
But I deleted ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.universalaccess.plist, just like the last poster said in that thread. Then I did a complete shutdown of the laptop (not a warm boot) and when it came back, it was fine.
Weird.
If you delete com.apple.universalaccess.plist, you will lose any custom keyboard shortcuts you may have defined, but then you can re-create them. Small price to pay.

Hi,
I had a simmilar problem wih my macbook pro. And I tried the solutions mentioned, but nothing worked.
Then I tried to go in the system properties , Universal access. There i changed the settings to; "show black on whte" And then my colors where bakc to normal.
So if you have a psycadellic mac flip, then try this out before deleting any system files :-)
resetting the PRAM works also
I'm so glad this was posted. Resetting pram worked! I thought I was screwed as well since it affected the windows side. This is much better than the $300 or so I thought I was gonna spend on a new LCD.
I seem to be having the same problem as shown in http://homepage.mac.com/aaron.smith/funky1.jpg and have tried deleting the file mentioned and resetting pram and smc, non of which seem to work, any other ideas, macbook pro 2007 15" osx 10.4.11
turns out mine was a problem with the logic board, got a new one and it's all better now
